Hey, It’s Ciara 💜
We’re developing some new fragrance concepts this week which got me looking back at some of the products we’ve created over the last few years. Not every idea became the bestseller I was very convinced it would… 😂 But every one taught us something! Here are 4 products we created that didn't work, and what we learnt from them.
1. Cocoa Butter Kisses
Every bit of market research told us that chocolate-scented laundry probably wouldn’t work...but you all loved the concept, so we decided to take the risk. What I learned is sometimes you have to take a risk and challenge the market research, and sometimes the market research might actually be worth listening to 😂
We're now on our final bottles, so if you loved this one or it sounds like a scent you'd enjoy, you can enjoy it here for a limited time! https://www.tallow-ash.com/collections/cocoa-butter-kisses
2. Candy Beach
It started strong and the fragrance itself had such lovely feedback – but the branding didn’t communicate the scent as clearly as it needed to. I learnt that creating a great fragrance is only half the job. The name, packaging and story around it can be just as important as the product itself.
If you loved Candy Beach, our Aurora scent range is very similar, and lots of our customers say it's an amazing replacement for Candy Beach lovers. Try it here: https://www.tallow-ash.com/collections/aurora
3. Bahama Vibes
Coconut is familiar, summer-y and already loved in laundry - What could go wrong? 😂What I learnt is that familiarity can make a product easy to understand but being different is often what makes it memorable!
4. When Life Gives You Lemons
When we first released the concept, you loved the fragrance, the colour, the name - so we got to work bringing it to life! But bright, citrus-heavy fragrances can be more technically challenging when it comes to achieving the strength and longevity we expect in laundry. We loved the scent, but we wanted more longevity!
If you loved this scent or would like to try it, we still have refills available here: https://www.tallow-ash.com/collections/when-life-gives-you-lemons
While not every product becomes a best seller... every launch teaches us something. What you order, what you feedback, and even what you don’t choose helps shape how we develop the next idea. And that’s why we love involving you from the very beginning! 💜

Candy Beach was my first one and it’s still my favourite! I purchased a few bottles when you did Day of the Dead and only use every so often so I don’t run out!! I also really like Date Night. Both of these scents last soooo long and I find them both so comforting when I get into bed 🥰 I really like Aurora and Cocoa Kisses too but they aren’t as strong so it will be sad to see these go … maybe they need a little work to get them smelling a little stronger?! Bahama Vibes, great for a fresh feel throughout the house, I have this in the fabric spray. May as well add Spooky Szn and Myrrh-y Christmas are great seasonal ones and will be great if you could do them as one offs again. I’ve never really got Oud, it’s probably the worst one for me.

The cocoa never really appealed to me as I go for more fruity or floral. I’m not keen on coconut so tend to avoid those fragrances. I was a bit disappointed in life gives you lemons as it smelt more cleaning product instead of fresh lemons, I hope you try again with the formulation of that one. Currently loving the home sweet home set. I also prefer longevity but also subtleness, my daughter returned from uni with a well known high Street brand and the scent was overpowering and unpleasant. The fabric sprays are lovely, my teenage son has claimed one for his room and I am not complaining about that!

it’s very frustrating.
there I find your brand and fall in love with a fragrance. the country club. not coming back. perhaps who
knows. maybe. not comforting.
than lemons. same again. this time with certainty not coming back. so sad.
I can only buy as much as I can and hope you bring something that I love again and that will last.
for now I am still on board, but I must say it’s frustrating to loose the wash I love.
still hoping for the return of the country club. please.

I loved Candy Beach for everyday washing and Duvet Day for bedding.
